Ups and Downs with Joshua

Well most people who know me Know that Joshua my 6 yr old is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with Leukemia at one yr old. He is a tough little boy. The first month on Chemo he got really sick and became septic. everything was touch and go for 24 hrs. We had lots of people praying so they came and told us they would try to take him off the ventilator but would probably have to put him back on. When they pulled it out my little Josh kept breathing on his own. Then the next day he was running the halls of ICU flirting with the nurses. After that he pretty much went though chemo like it was nothing. He had the normal fevers, upset tummy, and lack of appetite. Of course we panicked all the way through calling the DR every time we worried only to be assured everything was ok.

All though treatment I kept noticing Josh was extremely hyper and hard to control. He didn't like to eat foods with texture or loud noises. The Doctors kept saying it was the chemo or steroids and being spoiled. So we would let it go. He was also learning things quickly soaking up knowledge. by three years old he was reading by 4 doing math problems. When you took him to the store he wanted learning toys, not the normal hot wheels and stuff that Ryan loved. So when he started kindergarten the teacher saw what I had being seeing all along. So we went to a Dr for him to be tested and found out he has Aspergers. It is very mild but to get through the day we have to schedule everything. He doesn't like change he wants everyday to be the same and he has to have written rules everywhere we go.
since adding in schedules and using a timer things at home have become easier now we just have to master going places. He doesn't do well out of the house yet, but we are working on that. He dose sit still to count things or read signs. His favorite place to go is walmart.

I am very thankful to have my Ryan. He is a very sweet boy and at times he helps with Joshua. Right after josh was diagnosed I went to check on the boys one night, to find Ryan had climbed in the crib to be near Joshua. Ryan is all boy although he is my germaphobe. He loves to sit for hours playing with Hotwheels and now it is lego's. He doesn't spend the night with friends cause he doesn't like to eat from other peoples plates or drink from cups. He will even ask for a new fork if the one he has touches the table at a restaurant. I kinda made him that way cause we were careful with germs when Josh was sick.
